Emmanuel Palo's "Santa Nina" - Cinemalaya 2012


It stars some of the best actors in the independent film industy including Coco Martin, Alessandra de Rossi, Anita Linda, and Angel Aquino. Completing the cast are Irma Adlawan, Nanding Josef, Lui Manansala, Joe Gruta, Bea Garcia, Dax Alejandro,and Rie Batingana.

SYNOPSIS: When Paulino Mungcal and his co-worker in a lahar-filled quarry unexpectedly dig up the remains of his 2-year daughter Marikit, they discover that she showed no signs of decay. Could this be a miracle, and could she -- despite death – cure the sick? Inspired by whatever healing power the deceased child may have, Pol asks the church to declare
her a saint. But how, when her resurgence stirs up emotions buried by time, and shores up questions about pure love, guilt, sin and salvation?

FILMMAKER’S PROFILE: Emmanuel Quindo Palo is a Filipino filmmaker based in Manila, Philippines. He took up his Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Film and Television Production with specialization in Film Direction at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India in Pune from 2004-2007 as a scholar of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

                          
Prior to this, he has worked as scriptwriter in films and various drama programs on television and as assistant director with the Philippines most eminent film directors. The short films he has written and directed at the Film and Television Institute of India have won awards and recognition in various international film competitions and festivals in India and abroad. On March 19, 2009, his diploma film entitled “Stations” and shortdocumentary film entitled “Trip” won the National Awards for Best Short Fiction and Best Short Documentary respectively at the 56th National Film Awards in New Delhi, India. The National Award is the highesthonor given by the Directorate of Film Festivals and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India to the most outstanding films of the year, and is presented by no less than the President of India. He is presently working as director on ABS-CBN, the Philippines biggest television network. “Sta. Nina” is his first feature film.

This film is one of the 10 finalists at the 2012 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition's New Breed Full Length Feature Category to be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines with showing at Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma from July 20 to 29, 2012.
